Two Powerful Stress Reduction Techniques: Belly-Breathing and Smiling Because You Care
In this live talk, Dr. Neimark will review the basics of the human stress response and then introduce you to two powerful techniques that can radically reduce the level of stress in your life. The first technique is diaphragmatic deep-belly breathing. The breath is the connection between the automatic nervous system and the voluntary nervous system and holds the key to stress reduction. You will learn how to harness the power of belly-breathing in this video and hear some powerful case studies of patients who have benefited from this technique. The second technique is the power of smiling when we think of people and things we genuinely care about. A smile registers in the part of the brain called the hypothalamus and can trigger the release of endorphins, powerful stress reducing and pain relieving messenger molecules in the body. In this talk you will learn how to remind yourself to smile and in so doing, reduce your stress! Enjoy the talk.
Two More Powerful Techniques for Stress Reduction: Progressive Muscle Relaxation & Appreciating The Good
In this live talk, Dr. Neimark will review the basics of the human stress response and then introduce you to two more powerful techniques that can radically reduce the level of stress in your life. The first technique is called "tensing to relax" - also known as progressive muscle relaxation. It turns out that tensing your muscles followed by relaxing them triggers the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which gives you access to a "control switch" that can turn down your overactive fight or flight stress response, before it leads you to burnout. The second technique is the power of appreciation. Science shows that When we focus on the things we are grateful for in life and take a moment to appreciate those things, it activates the frontal lobes of the brain, which helps put the brakes on your stress response in your body. The trick is this: stress happens automatically, but we must learn to consciously evoke appreciation and gratitude. When you make a habit of taking time to appreciate the people and things in your life that you are grateful for, your stress will diminish and the positive benefits of relaxation and greater happiness will be measurable. Enjoy the talk.

You will learn all about the B vitamins, magnesium, zinc and the amino acids that are the building blocks of the key neurotransmitters like serotonin, GABA and dopamine that help to keep you happy, healthy and alert. Enjoy the talk.
